The view from here is amazing, wouldn’t you agree Jake? They were going to Ilirea before heading back to their home in Ceunon. I would. Why were we going here again? One thing about Jake: he hated the Capitol of the Broddring Kingdom…he always had. Then again, that’s why they lived in an out-of the way Elven city, and not the Elven capitol Ellesmera. He simply disliked anything dealing with politics, and was known for his short temperament with anything dealing with politics.
He heard Vervada laugh in that strange way dragons do. I would pick a rider has has as little patience as my own for politics and politicians. We had to come pick up a letter and some supplies for me remember? I believe you also wanted to see an old friend while you were here. Of course he remembered. They had been in Teirm for the last couple weeks dealing with the idiot governor of the town. He had been causing trouble in the region and had to be chastised. Of course the fact the he was a Politian hadn’t helped any. Jake had ended up having Vervada take the fool and drop him in the ocean….from a hundred feet in the air. He turned out to be most cooperative after that.
I remember….I just wanted to make sure that that was really what I wanted to do. He laughed and looked out over the dark landscape in front of him. They were still miles away from Ilirea, even by Dragonback. He estimated at least another two hours in the saddle. Soon after he felt a tug at his mind and threw up his defenses, but before he did he felt the very familiar presence of Vervada’s mind in his. He hadn’t realized he’d become so distracted. So…I have an idea of who the old friend is….but would you mind telling me? He laughed then squirreled the information away behind a wall in his mind, knowing it’d slightly frustrate her but wanting it to be a surprise. Jacob Blade! You know how unpleasant it would be for you to walk the rest of the way there? Why won’t you tell me?
He laughed harder. You wouldn’t, and I’m not telling you because I want to surprise you. Yes you have met her before, however this time she’ll have a friend with her. Besides, the last time you met her you were a very…very drunk dragon. You passed out and crushed the last three barrels of Faelnirv! Do you know how long it took the elves at that party to quit laughing? He looked in front of them and saw the city fast approaching and realized just how distracted he had been. Then he shrugged and went back to remembering that memory. They had visited one of the elven cities, and they had decided to throw the two of them a welcoming party. He hadn’t understood why and still didn’t, but he had went along with it. The elves had rolled out sixteen barrels of their faelnirv, of which Vervada had drank ten of them herself. During that time they had been introduced to many of the citizens of the town, of which he couldn’t remember the name of, and toward the time they were about to go to their guest quarters Vervada had passed out and crushed the last three barrels of faelnirv…much to the elves amusement. Apparently they had never before seen a drunken dragon.
He left his memories when he felt Vervada land rather heavily, nearly making him stab himself in the eye on her neck spike in front of him. Gee! Way to almost make me skewer myself on you. He heard that strange laughter from her again. Well that’s your own fault for not paying any attention to what I’m doing… besides it would have served you right for sitting there grinning like an idiot laughing at me for being too drunk to stay on my feet. Care for me to remind you of the many times you were too drunk to walk two inches? She sent him a quick group of mental images, all of which showed him passing out after stumbling no more than two inches.
They quickly took care of their shopping, and fairly soon after where waiting in one of Ilirea’s courtyards waiting to meet this person Jake was wanting to see.
