Væte had not entirely abandoned the "asking random people on the street" method of learning, but he had decided to broaden his approach. After the unfortunate business with Gil'ead had impressed upon him that he needed to learn, and quickly, he had come to Ilirea to enter a serious - well, as serious as Væte could manage - study of sorcery.
The library was tall and wide, the walls made out of white marble, the floor covered in rich carpets. Væte stared, awed. The shelves reached far above human hands, and were packed to the breaking with books.
The patrons were diverse - Væte saw humans of all races and elves, even the occasional dragon, making their way between the shelves.
Væte pulled down his cap and made a beeline for the sorcery section.

SOMETHING THAT'LL L I G H T THOSE EARS Chase had learned many of things from all the places he had gone. First with Alec and now with himself. But no matter where he went, he hardly caught word of spells for healing. Knowing that there had to be somewhere he could look, he arrived in the next closest city. Of course he was in his cat form right now, but he might have to become human once he went inside the library. As he walked into it though, he saw all the different creatures of the land. Seeing a lot of humans though, he went to a dark corner, where no one would see him, and turned into his human self.
He looked around to make sure no one saw him as he stepped into the nearest set of shelves. Not seeing what he was looking for, he kept searching. Finally he came to sorcery. 'Well that ought to be close to healing magic books.' He thought to himself. He scanned the shelves as he went by, not wanting to skip a book that might be around here. As he got near the last couple sorcery shelves, he came across a person. He got closer to the guy and cleared his throat. "Hey, do you know where I could find the magic healing books perhaps?" The boy looked at the guy hoping he wouldn't get some rude or snide comment. sick of all the incensere, SO I'M GONNA GIVE ALL MY S E C R E T S AWAY[/blockquote] This snazzy template was made by TASTEtheReinbow!! of CAUTION 2.0.

Væte looked up, smiling cheerfully at the other library patron - after a quick delay in which he made sure that it wasn't Vándr, the abomination, or any other Shade-like individuals.
"Oh, well, we're new here," Væte said. "We're from, um, the desert. We're not exactly experts in library categorization." His wide, pale eyes darted around the library. "We're looking for a more general type of sorcery book than these - " he pulled a book at random from the bookshelf behind them, and gave it a rueful look; it was entitled Theoretical Derivations from Gahten's Transubsiation Hypothesis - "or for some on recent history. Ones about Shades, if they have them. Maybe we - the two of us - can help each other."

so tell me what you want to hear*
SOMETHING THAT'LL L I G H T THOSE EARS When Chase first heard the guy start talking, he eyebrows peaked a bit as if curious. 'Curiosity did kill the cat.' He said thinking back to that old saying. He listened closely to the way he talked. He spoke as if there were many people with him. Chase, of course questioning this, decided to ask him about his friends. "Where are you friends?" He said tilting his head to the side a bit as a cat or dog would do if they were thinking about something in front of them.
The next thing Chase heard made the back of his neck hair stand on end. 'A Shade! So this is what they look like ehh.' He had heard some bad tales about this race. Not one that he could remember was really good. Taking precautions, he took a step back. Making it seem like he was just adjusting his weight. Still on the slight cautious side, Chase spoke again. "Sure. I can help you, if you help me afterwards?" He said to the Shade. He took to the shelves around them looking for any title that had to deal with Shades history or some sorcery books that could help this Shade out. While searching, he decided to find out a little about this Shade he was helping out. "So. What's your name? Mine's Chase." He said deciding not to give out his last name right now. it didn't seem like it would be best. Especially given the circumstance. Væte tilted his head in exactly the same manner. "Friends? We don't really have friends. We're new here," he added again, in the hopes that this would explain his lack of friends.
"We're Væte," Væte said. "Nice to meet you, Chase." And then, on a whim, "Also, does the name Herlið mean anything to you?"
Vándr had spoken of Herlið as if it was someone Væte ought to know; the fact that he didn't bothered him, and he meant to learn more about her.

SOMETHING THAT'LL L I G H T THOSE EARS Chase looked back at Vaete when he said that they had no friends. 'What is with this guy?' He nodded once "they" introduced themselves. He shook his head for a second wondering if he was perhaps going crazy. Realizing that this wasn't him, that the guy was getting some odd stares from passersby, he went on searching for the books. He paused and turned around when he heard Vaete speak again. He thought for a couple moments before turning back to the books with a slight confusion.
"You know. I might have heard that name from people I passed n the city. But i don't know who she may be though." A pause as he read a book title then pulled it out of the shelves. It was titled Shades of the Past. As he flipped through the book quickly, he noticed that it really just gave names and a brief description of how each one acted when they were alive. "Why do you ask?" He said as he closed it then walked over to Vaete. "And how about this one here?" He said handing over the book.sick of all the incensere, SO I'M GONNA GIVE ALL MY S E C R E T S AWAY[/blockquote]

"Yes!" Væte said, excitably, snatching the book out of Chase's hands. "That'll do very well, very well indeed." He flipped through it with his long fingers, searching for Herlið's name in the pages. "Did you hear about the - " he waved one hand vaguely - " business in Gilead? Bit of a mess. Enormous black dragon setting city on fire. Shade riding it, marches up to the citadel, orders us around, says he wants to take over the world. Weren't real keen on that. The Shade implied that Herlið was behind him. So we figured we'd come over here and take a look at this Herlið's history. Knowledge is power, after all. Actually, we'd rather power was knowledge; we don't much care about power, but we're very keen on knowledge. Ah-hah!" Væte stopped at a page prominently labelled Herlið. "Oh. That is very big text. Never a good sign in a book like this, eh?" On the one hand, the large text - a chapter heading - signaled that there would be a fair amount of information on Herlið available. On the other hand, the fact that there weas a fair amount of information on Herlið meant that Herlið had been around for a long, long time. She would not be an easy opponent. Væte considered getting on a ship and immigrating to another continent.
