Roy walked a lone on the streets of Gil'ead. These buildings still are weird to his blue eyes, even though he has walking among them for a week. He has met a bit of dragons and riders over the year or so, since Soreth bonded/hatched for him.
Roy smelled the wonderful smells of cooking food from the nearby booths. His nose also senses all the smells of blooming flowers that some street merchants were selling. Last of all, his eyes also rested upon all the shapes and sizes of native fruits that live in the nearby forests.
Roy paused as felt a mental link from Soreth. Congrats, you caught the first deer after two days of hunting. Roy told Soreth with a teasing voice. All he got back was the feeling of a snort as Soreth started to feast. Thanks for the tease. I really needed it. I also really need the food to gather energy to fly and maybe fight. Soreth muttered to Roy who shook his head slightly at the remark before he strolled onward.
Blue eyes watched the cloudless sky as Roy's footsteps got him closer and closer to the unseen Shade.

Væte appeared, seemingly from nowhere, beside a booth, as Roy approached. "Hello!" he said cheerfully. "We're a bit new here, traveler from the east - name of Væte. It's very different back where we came from - all that - " Væte fished around in his memories for any identifying features of the town Ahtel Fresson had lived in, and settled on - "sand, you know. Not many dragons there. Or elves. You look like a nice, normal, probably-not-creepy-and-sorcery-gone-wrong-y young man. We were wondering - would you be willing to answer a couple of questions for us about the city? Tell us a little bit about the natives, help us get the lay of the land, et cetera et cetera."
He pulled his cap down over his hair and tried not to let the light hit his eyes in case his illusion failed him.

Roy practically leaped in fright when Vaeta stepped in front of him. In a second, he was back in his calm and polite demeanor. "Hello." he replied back with a soft nod. This man who is standing in front of him has a strong, powerful feeling around him.
Roy heard the rest from the shade and thought of what to say. The young rider heard the question that the strange person asked him. Soreth, what do you think I should do? Answer his questions? Or to walk away? the rider asked his dragon who is finishing eating his meal. Well, you should act friendly. But, be careful of what you say and what he asks for you. Roy heard Soreth who took a bite of deer meat.
Roy looked at Vaeta, "Yes, I will answer any questions. Please, ask as many you want answered." he said politely to the Shade.

Væte clapped his hands. "Excellent, excellent! Good man. Woman. Whatever, we can't tell. Anyway! These dragons of yours. Well, not yours personally, but you get the idea. The point is, what can you tell us about dragons? There seem to be . . . a surprising number of them hanging around." He glanced up the the sky, where a black dragon was lazily gliding. "Do your people use them as beasts of burden? Or are they intelligent?"
He was dodging around the questions he really wanted to ask. The encounter with Andirekkr - with the abomination - had left him with the certain knowledge that he needed more information about this world - and, more importantly, about himself.
"Truth be told, we're very curious about all kinds of creatures! Humans, dragons, elves . . . Shades. Do you have much of a Shade problem around here?"

This person really has a freaky behavior. he said to Soreth who humphed back at him. I am listening to the person. Your not alone, Roy. Soreth said in a soft yawn when Roy felt him being done eating.
Roy listened to Vaeta's questions before wondering if he should answer them. He then felt the soft shove by Soreth's mind. Go ahead, young one. It's alright to answer. No need to be frightened. Roy softly sighed.
Roy's eyes narrowed slightly when Vaeta asked if the dragons are a burden and if their wise. Roy thought of smacking the man in the face. "No. They are not burden. We work with them as friends, allies and partners." Roy said and sent a feeling of a hug to Soreth who rumbled back politely. "They are really intelligent." Roy nodded as he felt Soreth reaching out to Vaeta.
Yes, we are intelligent. If you think of us as dumb creatures, you will have hundreds of dragons and riders to worry about. Roy felt Soreth's bubbling anger at Vaeta's question. Roy also wondered if the stranger will feel its anger also and if the man heard Soreth at all.
Roy paused as he heard the next question. "Yes, we do have a slight problem of Shades." he nodded softly as he remembered the good Shade that he bumped into. Roy blinked at Vaeta with interest and slight caution in his body language.

"Well, it's always good to have frie - " Væte started to say, and then jumped, his eyes widening, as Soreth contacted him.
Oh! Sorry, Væte said in reply to Soreth, We didn't mean any insult, we just wanted to be sure.
He's likely to find out what we are when he touches our mind, part of Væte warned, and Væte immediately started to shield his mind - not a complete block off, but enough for the dragon to find it difficult to figure out what was wrong about Væte's mind.
We'll be fiiiine, another part commented. What about our sense of adventure? Think about the adventure!
"Shades, really?" Væte said, feigning surprise - not very well, it must be said. "I was told they were quite rare. D-do you h-have many?" Now he was trying to sound scared. As fear was an emotion he had barely if at all experienced in his short life, he was not even remotely succeeding. "Because I ran into - " he broke off, leaving a long, theatrical pause and mentally congratulating himself on his acting skills - "a Shade right here in the city!"

Soreth snorted before retreating from Vaeta's mind. Anyway, he did feel curious when he felt a block in the Shade's mind. Soreth's head slightly cocked as he eyed Vaeta's body before Roy told him to relax. Soreth blinked at his partner before slightly unfolding his wings, before folding them backup before keeping an eye on Vaeta with cautious attention.
Roy looked at the man in front of him again. "Yes, they are rare. Just recently a person came over and warned me that their are a building force in the desert. So, I am very unsure how many there are in the desert right now." the young rider said softly. Roy paused as he heard Veata and knew he was talking about the man with the escaped spirit. Anyway, he still kept his mouth shut. Roy still doesn't trust this person and looked at the shade with interest, but he kept it in check.

Væte frowned, interested. "An army? Of Shades? Or do you mean an army led by a Shade? I thought you said Shades were rare. They can't be both rare and have an entire army of lurking out there in the desert."
Still . . . an army of Shades . . . it was an interesting concept, at the very least, and Væte was curious. "What exactly does an army of Shades do?" he asked.
