In the small elven city, Gwethana walked along the outer boundary cloak drawn tightly about her shoulders. Tendrils of black hair cascaded past her shoulders and she sniffed, wincing as the breeze picked up tickling her nose with the strands. Her eyes were locked upon the moist earth, searching for rare herbs and various plants that she could pluck and take back home for use with remedies and other such potions. It would only be too easy to simply buy the ingredients; Gwethana much enjoyed her own pursuit and wished to locate them on her own. It had not been an easy feat persuading the guards otherwise, but what danger would the fair elves present to her?
She stooped, halting atop a gentle hill blanketed in flowering weeds. Beneath the numerous vegetation a four-leafed clover had sprung up, quivering lightly at the touch of her hand. Gwethana gazed at it, blinking. It had been quite some time since she had last seen this specific growth, and her fingers burned hotly at their tips to reach out and uproot the clover from its proud spot. Yet something held her back and she straightened herself, shoulders squared back, chin tilted down toward the ground. It felt wrong to take such a beauty from the earth; it was unnatural. It wasn’t as though it could be used for any sort of brew or remedy. It would be a waste that she was not willing to commit.
White puffs of cloud overlapped one another, blue sequins woven in between. The sun had broken out from behind a massive cottony mass, casting warm rays of light downward. Gwethana squinted in the brightness, feeling her eyes leak lightly at the corners. She was sensitive to the light and quickly she shielded her eyes and sighed, turning away from the clover. The skin beneath the fabric of her dress prickled in the warmth. As she made to continue on her way a noise erupted to her left; Gwethana froze inhaling sharply.

The noise in question was the sound of a five hundred year old dragon landing, but he wasn’t just any dragon. He was Eridor Nightscales, the dragon king of sorts. He was well traveled, and well respected, but it was a very rare thing to see him as he usually preferred to be off on his own, flying around and doing what he wanted to do. One usually only saw him when he chose to give out some advice, and most usually decided to act on it.
He had been flying around, enjoying the sunlight on his dark blue scales, letting the heat warm his back and wings. As usual when he did something like that he would start to feel young, and in accordance he would act like it, doing aerial acrobatics he didn’t normally do because he never really had to use them. Most other dragons were intimidated by his reputation, and most of the elves and humans were the same. Why fight when you can simply talk though? The younger ones and all of their fighting to prove a point… He shook his massive head and turned his eyes toward the earth and took in the landscape beneath him.
What he saw was the edge of the massive forest that the Elves called Du Weldenvarden, but which had a different name for the dragons. The more he studied the area, the more details he saw, an elf here and there, one of their curious houses that were hidden so well he hardly ever saw them thanks to their being grown out of the trees. A Human along the edge of the town, which he now recognized as Ceris. A Human?
Why is a human in an Elven city? And why does that human appear to be picking plants? His curiosity aroused, he watched he a while longer, and saw her touch one of them, when he looked closer he saw it to be a four leaf clover. He saw her hesitate, and then back up and move away. That’s when his curiosity got the best of him and he decided to land and talk to her.
Once he landed, making the noise that caused her to freeze, he angled his head to look at her, and then projected his thoughts toward her. Hello, don’t be alarmed, I mean you no harm. My name is Eridor. What is yours?

( I D O I T E V E R Y T I M E Y O U R E K I L L I N G M E N O W )
&& i won't be D E N I E D by you / / the A N I M A L inside of you / / - - - - - - - Summer ran out of her house dodging this way and that. Past other elves she ran. Her speed seeming to increase with each stride. When she finally reached the end of Ellesmera, she called out in her mind. ’Zircona! Where are you! It is time.’ She probed out for her dragon’s mind anxious to get out in the skies. Her mother had been trying to keep her home for as long as she could now that they knew she was going to be leaving to Doru Araeba within the next few days. Wanting to get to see all the cities one last time, she had told Zircona they needed this day. She had been glad to accept but she had separated her mind so that she could hunt in peace. She continued running straight toward Ceris. It was far, but not that far from Ellesmera.
When she finally felt the presence of her dragon, she slowed to a walk. ’Relax now little one. I am a mere few feet above you waiting for an opening to come down.’ Summer nodded and when they reached a break at the end of the forest, Summer started running once again. This time, her feet carried her out into the open of the grass. She looked up at Zircona who was starting to swoop down next to her. Within moments the dragon was gliding right next to her and Summer jumped. Her feet caught the leather straps that held the saddle in place and she scrambled up the side of her dragon. With one great push, Zircona flew back to the heavens. As Summer got situated, Zircona started looking around. Wondering if anyone was out this way right now. Summer on the other hand was busy tightening the straps around her legs and making sure her bow and arrows were still strapped tightly to the saddle. Her long sword held tight in its scabbard on her right, while her short sword hung on her left in its scabbard. Her boot held the little dagger that she only took out in emergencies.
Zircona stopped something land in the distance and as she warned Summer, they both agreed to go and take a closer look. They circled the two and it looked to be a dragon and human. ”What is a human doing out here?” But as Zircona started towards the ground, Summer noticed the happiness radiating from her dragon. ”What it is?” She paused as Zircona showed her images of the dragon. It seemed he was the Dragon King of sorts. Before she could ask his name though, Zircona beat her to it. ’His name is Eridor. A very old and wise dragon. Let’s go see what’s happening.’
Summer couldn’t help but smile at her dragons impatience as they landed on the ground a few feet from the dragon and human. Instead of opening her mind to both, Summer kept her mind closed. She didn’t know if this human could be a magic user. Plus, an elves mind could trap a person and make them lose their mind. Summer bowed to Eridor before speaking. ”My name is Summer and this is my dragon Zircona. Zircona here tell me many things about you Eridor. That you are basically a king among dragons. Is this true?” Turning to the girl Summer thought she recognized her from somewhere but couldn’t place it. ”Are you by chance the princess?” Zircona nodded to the human and opened her mind to Eridor. ’Is she to be trusted with our minds wise one?’[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote] -- tagged: Gwethana and Eridor -- outfit: Here-- notes: Sorry for how long I took -- lyrics: Animal - Neon Trees -- credits: LikeAStariNight @ Caution 2.0

A great current of air pressed upon Gwethana; the earth shook with a great weight and slowly she turned, mouth parted in mounting terror. The sight of a grand dragon caused her heart to drop into her stomach. For a moment she stood, staring in horror up toward the creature feeling as small as an ant. Though dragons were noble creatures their immense size, strength, and unyielding knowledge made Gwethana feel inadequate and fearful; a human could easily be killed without so much as the dragon lifting one talon. But pride was fastened tight about her heart, and despite her fright Gwethana lifted a trembling chin and narrowed her emerald orbs. Her lips were pursed into thin, white lines. She took a small step back, pulling her cloak closer about her body.
She bowed respectfully at the waist, her expression a mixture of unease and wonderment. Her mind buzzed at the low tenor of Eridor’s voice. “It is a pleasure to be within your company, Eridor.”
Though polite, a note of false truth wavered between her words. Gwethana swallowed, attempting to remember the etiquette her father had passed on to his children. She spluttered, “I, well…I am…”
But her words were cut short as a shadow fell upon her; Gwethana’s skin erupted into goose bumps. Another dragon had landed a few feet from where she stood, but as though this was not shock enough a rider slipped from its back addressing both she and Eridor. Gwethana stood, stunned to silence. Her tongue felt like lead within her mouth. She listened mutely as the rider, Summer as she had been introduced, inquired about Eridor’s position amongst the dragons. Gulping, Gwethana blinked in surprise. The king of dragons? A high and mighty honor indeed, but not one given without reason; Eridor was stronger than most dragons and the idea sent a shiver down her spine. Summer then quickly pivoted and addressed her; Gwethana felt frozen as Summer was able to correctly guess her identity without even batting an eye. It unsettled her knowing this stranger knew her name while she knew not the stranger’s from memory. Seconds slipped by, filling the air with silence, until Gwethana was able to gather her scattered thoughts and said, “I am she. More importantly, why are you here?”
Her question was directed at both Eridor, Summer, and Zircona. In defense and apprehension, her tone was sharp like a whip, impolite but she cared little. Her nerves had now been stretched taut with the latest arrival and she had thrown formalities out the window.

Eridor crouched down into what was for him a much more comfortable position and waited for the human to answer his questions, but waited for her to answer him in her own time, recognizing that his presence had scared her. He watched as she bowed and nodded his head in return at her words. He listened as she was about to tell him who she was when he heard the telltale thrum of another dragons wings and then felt the earth shake when the other dragon landed.
He turned his head just enough to see the newcomer, and sensed a great joy from the dragon, but he also saw one of the riders. These two he had never met, so he naturally assumed them to be new riders, but of course he was probably wrong. Bah…when one is as old as me everyone seems young. He shook his massive head for and listened more intently as the rider bowed before him and told him who they were and asked if he was indeed the dragon king. This time, instead of merely nodding his head he projected his thoughts to them, not having any reason to hide his mind from anyone.
King I have been called…but it’s merely a fancy title for no dragon can truly claim to rule them all. I speak for my race when needed, and I make decisions for us if called for, as my line has been entrusted to do for millennia. He was interested though when Summer revealed the identity of the human. Princess? He racked his mind for any memory of her and then it came to him.
He had been flying high above the human capital when he had glimpsed her briefly. From what he had heard she was on to be trusted. He said as much when Zircona asked him. He was brought back to the present when he heard the Princesses sharp tone and confirming her identity and asking a question of her own.
Peace youngling, I am merely here to satisfy my curiosity, and for a bit of pleasant conversation. I don’t pretend to speak for these two, but I would be willing to guess that they are here for the same reason as I… That being said, he looked expectantly at Summer and Zircona, awaiting their answer.[/blockquote]

When Summer felt Eridor’s mind press against her, she allowed him in. She heard him tell about how he was the king but wasn’t at the same time basically. She nodded understanding what he meant. When the girl answered her question with a sharp tongue she raised an eyebrow. ’And I thought royalty were supposed to have certain formalities.’ She said to Saphira and herself with a small smile. But she assumed that the girl was probably at unease with the two dragons looming over her. Only people that had become dragon riders, or were really used to dragons, could ever really handle being around more than two. Zircona had nodded when she heard Eridor speak in her mind about how she could be trusted. Hesitantly, so as to not scare the girl, she too slipped in her mind. But just on the fringes of it so that if the girl started getting more scared she could slip out and just have Summer relay her thought to the girl. ’We are here simply because I needed a flight with my rider and got curious as to what Eridor was doing out here.’ She said eyeing Summer letting her know that when this conversation ended, her wings still needed to be stretched out. Summer smiled at her dragon and looked towards the girl. ”That is my reason to. Plus I just needed to get out of Ellesmera for a bit before I leave to go to Doru Araeba in a week.” She paused a moment as she finally remembered where she had seen this girl and how she knew she was the princess. It was at a meeting of sorts between the different leaders of the species. She had been there as a sort of ambassador for the elves and the dragon riders that lived there. Although she had not spoken, she had seen this girl behind the king and had only assumed she must be the princess. Her eyes flicked between Zircona, Eridor, and the human girl whom she had yet to still find out her name. ”I know you are the princess. But, your name still escapes me. What is it?” Her tone soothing and melodious like most elves when there is no anger behind the words. hey human and dragon, i'm Summer and Zircona. This is 378 words long and Gwenthana and Eridor are in it. hahahaha of caution made it, so don't steal.

Relaxing her shoulders, Gwethana arched a brow and said coolly, “My name of birth is Gwethana.” Her eyes flicked sharply upward, calculating her newfound company. Their stances were noble enough; the language emitted from their movement was not threatening yet Gwethana’s heart still skipped a beat in fear. A part of her felt foolish for acting on the defensive; riders and dragons were mostly a fair breed who strove for the common good; but she was a weak girl who stood no chance against any sort of enemy despite her cold exterior.
Gwethana shrugged, letting out a sigh. She felt the blades of grass brush about her ankles and she shifted as the itching was uncomfortable against her skin. A few birds chirped and swooped low, slicing the air with paper-thin wings. She clasped her hands behind her back, smashing her lips tight together in an attempt of authority. “And what drew your curiosity near?” Gwethana inquired of Eridor, Summer, and Zircona. “And do you not have a rider?” This was directed toward Eridor. She knew not if it was considered rude to ask this type of question, but cared little if it was the case. She was of a curious nature, though bitter, nature and wanted answers.
The sun shone brightly causing Gwethana to squint in the rays; she wondered what decisions Eridor had had to make in the past when called upon and what kind of situations the event would occur. But she held her tongue, feeling it was not a proper time to ask. Instead, she straightened her back and glared toward the others awaiting their replies.

Eridors eyes flickered with interest when Summer mentioned Doru Araeba. What takes you there Summer and Zircona? He arched one of his eyebrows when Gwethana mentioned her name but didn’t comment on it, but he did do the dragons version of a laugh when she asked if her had a rider and what had drew his curiousity.
It’s…unusual…for a human to be outside a elven city, I can count on the knuckles of one of my claws how often I’ve seen it in my life…so naturally it piques my curiosity when I see it. As for your other question…I guess it’s only fair to answer it….but the answer is a long one. My mother….wherever she may be… laid me and twelve others: five brothers and seven sisters. I was the only one however, who hatched a wild dragon. Neither I nor my siblings know each other, and that’s how she wanted it. Each of them now have a rider, and I have my race…but I think if it were to be different, I wouldn’t be as happy. To be free, no one to share your thoughts, and no one to constantly answer to you or to look out for…or to ask permission to do the slightest little thing….its the best life I can imagine...though im sure our young rider and dragon here probably feel different about that.
Now, if I may….what brings you here princess? After he was done speaking her curled up on the ground and waited for answers of his own….

When her name was said Summer felt a smile tug at her lips. ’Ahh yes now I remember.’
She looked up to Zircona and saw that she two remembered the name as it was spoken. Her eyes flashed back to Gwethana as she asked first herself and Zircona a question and then Eridor. But, right as Summer was about to speak Eridor began. Of course Summer stopped talking right then out of respect and listened to the older dragon speak. Zircona laid down behind Summer and tucked her wings into her sides to make sure they didn’t hit anyone. Her tail curled around her body. Summer sensing that Zircona did this, took a couple steps to the side and leaned back against her shoulder. She smiled up at her dragon before turning her attention back to Eridor. When he was talking they listened intently, but at the mention of it being better to not have a bond, they both inhaled a gasp. To them it was amazing. So, once he finished speaking they started up on the questions they had been asked by both others. Summer started with Gwethana’s. ”Like Eridor said, it is uncommon for a human to be out here. But just as well, it is uncommon for me and Zircona here, to see a human at all ear or in the Elvin territory. Both of our curiosities got the better of us, so we came to inspect.” Zircona started on Eridor’s question once Summer was finished. ’Summer has yet to finish all of her training. She knows all the Elvin techniques, but she feels that in order to become a better and stronger rider that she will have to learn the human way, and actually be trained by a rider instead of people in the city that are strongest at their tasks. Also, if I may add. I think it is better to be bonded. You get to confide in other people who will not judge you. You get to always have someone to talk to. If the talking gets tiresome you can always shut out your mind, but I like the company. I cannot imagine being alone in this world. I love watching after someone. IT makes me feel loved and wanted to be around her.’ She stopped there thinking she had said enough and when she felt Summer’s body move she looked down at her rider and saw her beaming up at her. They had been thinking the same thing when she had talked about that. And it was most definitely true. They both turned back to Gwethana waiting to hear what she had to say.[/blockquote][/blockquote] { 441-how many words?}{ Complete}{ Eridor and Gwethana}{ Already done}{ Credit goes to:Jinx?! and lyrics go to One Direction}

Gwethana blinked, tilting her head forward with interest as Eridor began to explain his answer to her question. She was intrigued by the notion that not all dragons bonded to a rider, preferring their own independence. Out of the corner of her eye she watched as Zircona settled herself, wrapping her close to her body in an effort to not prod anyone with them. Quickly Gwethana averted her attention back to Eridor, feeling her jaw slacken on its hinges and begin to drop. She found it curious that he had never met or interacted with his siblings, but Eridor belonged to the might race of Dragons and therefore had different customs than she. In complete honesty, Gwethana herself wished that she had no brother and was somewhat envious of Eridor in that aspect.
When Eridor had finished, Summer added in her own reason as to why she had been drawn to the area. It was similar to Eridor’s and Gwethana found herself blushing vaguely at the mention of few humans coming near to the city; it made her feel awkward and out of place like a lost duckling. Her head nodded slightly along with Zircona’s words. She believed what the dragon said to be what most other humans thought to be true where the relationship between a rider and dragon was concerned. Not that she was knowledgeable in the subject, it was one of the few things she strayed from and did not dive into. Dragons had always made her feel semi-uneasy in some aspect, even when only brought up in conversation.
Clearing her throat in an attempt to be proper, Gwethana stated coolly, “It escaped my understanding that few humans passed through these lands, but given their true residence it is easily fathomable. In my spare time I enjoy brewing remedies of sorts instead of stitching whatever-have-you with the ladies of court. My latest required special herbs which sprout only in particular areas. Ceris just so happens to have the fertile earth required for such finicky plants.” She heaved a sigh, allowing a steady stream of air to slip past her parted lips. Her emerald orbs fixated on the surrounding company and she gave a small shrug of her shoulders. “And that is all. Fresh air is always a kind change from the stuffy walls of the palace.”
Gwethana looked up toward the sky, shielding her eyes from the bright rays of sun. It certainly was much fairer here and she immensely enjoyed the brief reprieve. Perhaps the meeting would prove more interesting than she thought originally.

Eridor looked at Gwethana with renewed interest as she explained what she was doing out in the forest by Ceris, especially since this was the first time he had ever met a royal who felt that way. That is an interesting view you have of things Gwethana, im honored that you would share them, though now I am curious. You said you preferred brewing things to stitching the what-have-yous like others in the royal palace, but may I ask what you are brewing and why?
Honestly he could indeed see her reason for not liking stitching things as he couldn't see the point of wasting hours and hours of time doing something like that when there were many more practical things that could be done. While he was talking, he was also turning what Zircona said over in his mind, and after he had finished thinking about it, he decided to reply, his 'voice' deep and thoughtful.
I have often wondered what life would have been like had i been chosen to be one of the bonded. I imagine that i would have felt like you do Zircona, but then i think about the life I have had, and realize how much i have enjoyed what i have done, and the freedom i have. If i were to be bonded, i would always feel as though i were being tied down, and the more you get to know me, the more you realize that that is something i do not like to feel like. There's a reason some of us are born as wild dragons, and why some of us are born as bonding dragons. The reason isn't always clear, but it has much to do with the personality. If you want Zircona, i could fly with you and Summer on your way to training to train you in some of the wild dragons methods of airial combat, as im sure they would work for the both of you in the future. As for you Gwethana, perhaps i could introduce you to a friend of mine, a human though he is a rider, that might like to meet with you. That is, if you wish it.
While he was talking he raised his head up while still laying down, in order to have a clearer view of everyone, and he also let a very dragonish version of a smile cross his face, feeling at ease with the company he was with, enjoying the break from his solitude.

She was making some good points, and although Summer did not live in Ceris, she knew that they were known for their fertile ground. Which it really was. Many upon many of pants were grown here that were hard to find in other places. She looked around at the plants that were growing around them and couldn't help but smile. Thanks to the elves singing the plants looked wonderful. She looked back to Gwethana jsut as the princess started to speak again. Fresh air. Isn’t that what everyone wanted? And what fresher air could you get than by the forest in a meadow. She looked up to Zircona, their thoughts seeming to mirror each other in these aspects. But then again their thoughts were pretty much almost always the same. Zircona turned to face Eridor and then turned back to Gwethana curious as to what her answer would be. Not many people of royal nature did things like brewing. Or at least, the elves didn't. The elves did what they were supposed to. Of course some of the princesses would try to do other things, but it didn't seem right. "Yes. What exactly are you planning on making?" Summer said as her curiosity got the best of her once again. They both turned in time to Eridor as he spoke of not being bonded. They could see what he meant by how fate most likely chose for him to not be bonded. Though they still couldn't think of not being bonded, they tried to put themselves in Eridor's place. Of course he would love the feeling of being free, but then again Zircona did love the feeling of flying and Eridor probably flew a lot. But then he said that he would fly with them to Doru Araeba. She would be able to learn wild dragon techniques. She tried to keep her excitement at the option of getting to learn the new aerial maneuvers. Of course though, her tail showed it as it swiped the floor a little bit. Summer felt this and turned to look before shaking her head and leaning back against her again. 'Really! You would fly with us? I, we, would love that.' Her body was shaking slightly from the excitement and since Summer was starting to lose her balance she leaned away from Zircona but nodded to what her dragon said. She nodded to what Zircona told Eridor. It would be very useful.
