Plot
Peace has ruled in Alagaesia for the last several hundred years. The Humans are comfortable in their Kingdom; poverty is at an all time low, and taxes are really low. Everyone can easily make a living right now. There is only a small standing army due to the reigning peace with the Kingdoms neighbors, and the standing army is only comprised of men who are single. The King of the Humans is very suspicious of the Dragon Riders, even though he is currently in charge of them. He finds being allied with both the Dwarves and Elves brings much wealth to his nation, and respects the Dragons. In fact, he has said that death will be brought about to anyone found Dragon hunting in his kingdom, no matter what the circumstances behind the act are.
The Elves live wherever they feel like, and aren’t secluded in the Du Weldenvarden. They have many elf-friends from the riders, humans, and Dwarves. All races except the Shades and Urgals are welcome within their cities…..provided nothing is done to offend them.
The Dwarves still love their underground dwellings, but they can also be found in their cities above ground. They have no love for Dragons, but they still tolerate them, and welcome the Elves, Dwarves, Humans and Dragon Riders within their walls.
The best part…..The Dragons. They number many, their strength unmatched. They willing give of their knowledge, but not their secrets…..especially their secret of the Eldunari. Many ancient Dragons can be found in various places, and most all of them wild, but much respected. Dragons try to refrain from burning or attacking towns or villages from any of the races, except the Urgals……but even the Dragons have trouble finding the Urgals’ villages.
There is little known about the Werecats. Their nation is hidden very well from all of the Kingdoms, though it is also in plain sight. The Werecats live among the Humans and Elves, and can occasionally be seen among the Dwarves. They open up to the Elves and show what they really are, but among the humans they remain hidden; the unsuspecting humans not realizing that the cat running around their house is really a Werecat. Very rarely do they show a human what they are.
So, with so much peace everywhere…..there has to be trouble brewing somewhere. Somewhere in the Hadarac Desert, a cult of humans have banded together. This cult is devoted to sorcery, and all of them have little to no knowledge of the art……and yet all of them know the words of summoning. Their one goal is to dominate the entire continent, and every race on it. So, when their numbers reach two hundred they plan on doing one massive summoning…..one massive summoning that will turn every one of them into a shade. Then they will either turn on each other, or band together and attack the known world. Though this is still a work in process…..as their numbers only number at a hundred, and is highly fluctuating due to their leader being a very ancient and very powerful Shade.
It gets worse. Urgal sightings up and down the Spine have been increasing, and with these sightings usually come an attack. If you were to travel a mile into the Spine, you would never be seen again, because you would find that the Urgals are gathering their forces. They are tired of hiding in the mountains….the source of rumors of strange happenings. They are gearing up to march on the world around the Spine, prepared to seize much land and honor for the Urgal nation. The Urgal King is willing to negotiate with the world if possible…but he knows that his people need land, and that the world will likely laugh at him for asking. He has a ruthless successor chosen should he not return from negotiating with the other world leaders…..and has already given him orders to begin their assault should he not return.
