Rayalen was born to Lily and Roy Johnson. She never knew her mom because she died during child birth. But her dad took over and they did what was needed to survive. They lived in a small shack on the edge of their villiage. Her dad often went into the woods to hunt, often bringing home rabbits, raccoons, and other small prey. They survived off of the meat he brought home, and he often sold the left overs or traded it for other needed supplies. They lived together, they played together, and they worked together. On Rayalen's tenth birthday, her father took her into the woods. She was going to learn to hunt. He had built her a bow - just like his only smaller - and some arrows, and it was the best birthday present she'd ever received. They spent the next hours and days spending all their free time in the forest. He taught her how to walk quietly, how to track game, and how to shoot and aim.
Before long she was good. She was a natural so it didn't take her long to pick up the skill. After about a year, she was able to hunt on her own, without the aid of her father, and she was able to take down most small prey on her own. On her fifteenth birthday she and her father went into the woods again. This time her father had a new bow for her. This one was larger, more appropriate for a growing girl, and she would be able to use it for much longer than the smaller one. They headed out into the woods to begin their hunting day.
This time they went out of their ordinary hunting area. Her father had always forbidden her to go out past their zone, and this was the first time she ever had. They hadn't been walking long, when they heard a roar. Rayalen immediately froze, and her father did as well. Her father smiled. "There is a Dragon nearby." Rayalen had never seen a dragon before. Not really. She'd seen them flying up in the sky while she was hunting, but she'd never really been able to get a good look at one.
After a few minutes of silence, they kept walking. They moved through the forest silently, barely making a sound despite the loose leaves that had newly fallen on the ground. They hadn't dried out yet, so they didn't crunch to pieces when stepped on. They moved like this for a good thirty minutes. They didn't speak, and they came to a stop and sat down on a log. They started eating their lunch, when another roar broke out, this one was much closer than the other, Rayalen was instantly scared. Her father put his hand up to his mouth, telling her to be quiet. And they moved toward the sound.
A few minutes later they began to hear sounds of a fight. A Dragon fight. They peered through the trees and could make out two dragons fighting about something. They were flying and falling and making a mess of the valley where they were fighting. Rayalen had never seen anything like it. They tore at each other and their roars echoed through the trees. Then one of them went quiet, and the other roared in victory. Rayalen covered her mouth with her hands. She started to ask her father but he waved his hand, keeping her quiet. The large dragon that had won the fight took off, and flew up and over their heads. Rayalen stared at his belly as he flew away, amazed at his size. She looked back at her father to see him moving down the hill, towards the fallen dragon. "Papa!? What are you doing!?"
He shushed her. "Calm yourself Raya. It will be fine." She shook her head but followed him down. "But what if she isn't dead? What if he comes back?" Her father sighed, and stopped walking. He turned to face her. "Do you trust me?" Rayalen nodded. "Then come on. This will be a learning experience for you."
She nodded obediently and headed down the mountain, after her father. They paused just outside the clearing. Trees had been knocked down from the dragons' fight, and lay scattered around the clearing. They had to step over them as they walked. They reached the dragon, and her father sighed. "Poor girl."
Rayalen could do nothing but stare at the magnificent beast that lay still before her. It was white. Pure white, the color of fresh snow in the winter, and huge. The head alone was bigger than she was. Rayalen started looking around and noticed an oddly shapped rock. It was a rather large rock, and she moved towards it. "Papa? What is this? He moved over to stand beside her, and smiled. "That, my dear, is a dragon's egg." Rayalen leaned forward to look at it, but a roar made her stop and look back.
The white dragon was awake, and it was looking right at them. Her head was lifted high as if to strike. Her father pushed her towards the treeline. "Run Raya!"
Rayalen didn't need to be told twice. She ran. She heard a roar echo behind her, and a scream. She ran faster. She ran for a good five minutes before stopping. She wasn't sure where she was, but she did know one thing. Her father wasn't with her. She looked around, but didn't see him. "Papa?" She slowly made her way back towards the clearing where she had last seen him. She was scared of seeing the dragon again, but she had to find her father.
When she reached him, the dragon was still there, and so was her father. He was lying on the ground, bleeding heavily. She ran over to him, and shook him. "Papa?" There was no answer at first, but slowly he seemed to wake up. "Papa???" He coughed, and shook his head. "Don't worry my dear. Everything will be fine." She hugged him tightly, and begged him not to leave her. "Papa, don't leave me!" Roy coughed again and put his hand on his daughter's face. "Get the egg and take it to Gil'ead. Someone there will know what to do with it." Rayalen shook her head. She wasn't going to take that thing anywhere. She wanted nothing to do with it. "Papa come with me?" Her father sighed. "I"ll be with you. Even if you can't see. I love you Rayalen. Make me proud." With that his head fell back and his hand fell from her face. Rayalen choked on her sobs and turned to look at the egg he wanted her to take.
It was white, and had darker strips around it. The color of the beast that had killed her father. She wasn't taking it anywhere. She stood up and walked towards it. She looked at it, and then looked at the dragon who seemed to still be breathing. Her heart filled with anger and hatred as she stared at the dragon. She looked down at the egg. That thing was the offspring of the white dragon. And if that was the case she didn't care what happened to it. She didn't care if it lay there in that clearing forever. She picked it up. No, laying here in the clearing was too good for it. She threw it into the forest, and watched as it rolled down the hill.
After that she heard a roar behind her. The mother had woke up once again and now it really looked angry. It lifted its head once more and started for her, but Raya was able to dodge the attack, barely, and ran. The dragon was too injured to come after her, and Rayalen only ran faster as she heard the roar of furry echo behind her.
She made it back to the villiage, and quickly related the story to everyone that would listen. A few families offered to let her stay with them, but she refused. She didn't want to live anywhere but their shack. She could hunt for herself, and hunt enough to trade for other supplies just like her father had. She was fifteen afterall, and could handle it.
A few years passed. She grew older. She had a few of the boys in town try to court her, try to marry her and what have you. But she had no interest in romance. Her only love was hunting and the silence that now consumed her life. Her father had been a music lover, and had often played her songs on his flute and they would sing together. Now she only hears the music in passing while out on the street. Occassionally she would stop to listen, but very seldom as it brings back sad memories.
When she was seventeen, she knew she had to move on. She couldn't keep dwelling in this depressed state. She wasn't living. She knew she could do more for herself. So in an effort to let the past go, she made the trip again.
She moved in her usual silence, and it didn't take long for her to reach the clearing. At least it didn't seem that long. It looked the same as it had. The tree logs that had been strewn about were still there, although much older looking. They seemed as if they would break if you stepped on them, so she avoided that. She looked at the spot where she had left her father. The body was long gone, rain and other elements had destroyed it, and what hadn't been destroyed had probably been eaten and moved by other animals. She cursed herself for not coming back and burying him.
She thought back to his last words. Make him proud. She knew he wouldn't be proud of the way she'd been living. Take the egg. The egg. She turned to where the egg had been lying when she picked it up. She walked over, and looked to where she had thrown it. She wondered if it was still there. She moved toward the area. She had to push through a few low branches, and she searched for a good five minutes. She didn't see it. Maybe it had hatched and moved on, or maybe someone else had found it. She sighed and turned to walk back up to the clearing, something white caught her eye. It was the egg. She couldn't believe it was still here. For two years it had been sitting there, all alone.
She bent down and picked it up, and slowly walked back to the clearing. Then something happened. It started making noises, and something thumped around inside of it. Rayalen shrieked and dropped the egg. She took several steps away from it, and started to turn and leave, but she heard a loud crack, and when she turned to look, the egg was in pieces, and standing in the middle of it was a small dragon. It was white, much like it's mother had been, but this one had dark stripes across it's body. She watched it for a moment, but ended up turning away from it. She started to walk away, but suddenly a small roar sounded behind her, and she turned. The thing ran towards her, and she again took several steps back, but instead of attacking her, the dragon rubbed against her leg. Rayalen rolled her eyes, and once more started to walk away. The Dragon ran forward and blocked her "What do you want!? Do you want to come with me?"
The dragon seemed happy when she spoke to it, so she cautiously moved closer to get a better look. She squatted down in front of it, and slowly reached her right hand forward. "Well, come on then". She didn't know what she was expecting. Maybe the dragon would step forward and let her pet him? Or maybe he would wise up and run off. She was kind of hoping for the latter honestly. Deep down she was still angry at his mother, and since his mother wasn't around anymore, her anger had moved towards him. Who says you can't be angry at someone for something their parents did?
Whatever she was expecting, it wasn't this; the dragon practically lept forward and pushed his head against her palm. She gasped and fell backward as she felt a slight tingling on her hand. She cradled her right hand in her left and looked at the dragon briefly before looking back down to her hand. There was a mark, shining a whitish silver color in the shape of a strange oval. She glanced up at the dragon. "What did you DO?"
The dragon made a chuckling sound. "We are bonded now." Rayalen jumped up and took several steps away from the dragon. "B-Bonded!?? You mean like the dragon riders??"
The dragon nodded and Rayalen heaved a heavy sigh. She couldn't believe this. She didn't want this. She glared at the dragon, "Why me?? You must have missed the part where I threw your egg into the woods...Don't you think you could have asked me first???"
The dragon just chuckled once more. "I know what I'm doing."
Rayalen groaned and started walking."Fine. But I know I'm going to regret this. The dragon followed behind her immediately, and no matter how Rayalen tried, she couldn't get rid of him. It wasn't until about a week later when she finally began to like the thing.
She eventually let it get closer to her, would pet it occassionally. Finally she said "If you're going to hang around I suppose I should name you...
They spent the next few days going over names, and finally decided on Shura Edur SilverClaw. Since then Raya has learned to trust Shura, but he is the only dragon that she trusts.
Both of them cherish the night that she finally gave in to being his rider. It was a particularly depressing day for her. It was her 18th birthday, three years to the day of her father's death, and it was the first one she'd spent with Shura. That day she'd spent trying to ignore him. Pretend that he wasn't there, that he didn't exist. This of course hurt Shura's feelings, but he understood. That night it rained. Rayalen likes the rain, but that night it only heightened her depression. She huddled down in the corner of her father's bedroom. And buried her face in one of his old shirts. "Oh Papa.... She cried. That night she felt completely abandoned. Everyone she'd ever loved was gone, Shura could of course feel this through the bond, and carefully made his way through the house, as he was getting rather large now, and gently nudged her arm. She jumped as he did, and moved to push him away, and screamed at him. "Why can't you just leave me alone!!. Shura lowered his head, "I'l never leave you alone Raya... Rayalen looked up at him. He was serious. He really had no intention of leaving her. She hadn't exactly been nice to him, but he still was sticking around. This realization made her start crying all over again, and she stood up and ran over to him, wrapping her arms around him, carefully avoiding those spikes. Finally he lay down on the floor and she cuddled up against him, and despite the tears finally fell asleep.
Ever since then she doesn't try to make him leave. Sometimes she still resents him for her father's death, and he realizes this. But he also knows that that will pass in time. It has been 5 months since he hatched. He is big enough for them to fly now, and they do sometimes. She gets nervous occassionally, but she knows he won't let anything happen to her. Rayalen now can barely get through a day if Shura isn't around to keep her strong. He keeps her from falling back into her depression, but even he can't keep the worst of it away.

Rayalen looked wearily out of the window. Her roommate used it as an out all the time. But she's a freakin house cat. Boring. Raya looked at the tree, and shook her head. "Nope. Not happenin."
I am NOT a freakin' house cat. She across the room to the main door, and slowly opened the door. She peeked out to see if there were any teachers. No. Not yet. It was just barely nine o'clock, so she figured whoever was supposed to watch this hall wasn't here yet. Good. She glanced behind her to see Tara getting on the computer. She'd be busy all night. Probably wouldn't even notice Rayalen gone. Raya smirked. She quickly walked out of the room and closed the door behind her, and rushed out of the building.
She treaded carefully. She peeked around corners and it didn't take her long to get out of the building. Then she was as good as clear. She walked cautiously through the night, making sure to stay off the main sidewalk and stick to the shadows near the buildings. Maybe she's being parnoid, but she knows she doesn't want to get caught.
At one point, when she is just under a tree, she hears something, and stops. She glances up, and a small pair of eyes stare back at her. For a moment she freezes, trying to figure out what it is. It moves, and it looks like a squirrel. She racks her brain, trying to think if she knows anyone who is a squirrel. Her roomate. Maybe it's just her. She glances up again but the squirrel is gone, and it is impossible to tell what color it was.
She sighs, crossing her fingers that it WAS just Lux, and keeped walking. There, she can see the main entrance to the school campus, and she can also see the blue car that David showed her on chat. She keeps walking. Almost there. She sees the tinted windows and now that she's there she can see her reflection. She pauses. Does she really want to do this? She's never met the guy before. Trusting him based on a ten minute conversation over the school's chat room. Is that really her? She bites her lip. It isn't like her to go around breaking the rules, but you can't keep a tiger caged in for so long. She broke the rules just coming here, so why stop now.
Rayalen took a deep breath and opened the car door, and climbed in. Once the door what shut she turned to see David sitting in the driver's seat. "Hi."
