History\\ Vey was found in the woods near the Spine by a tailor and seamstress hiking. They searched for her parents; but only found a jeweled knapsack close to her, filled with gold coins and delicate trinkets. They immediately thought the parents were bandits, and had abandoned her when discovered and dropped the knapsack. They raised her as their own, along with her ‘brother’ Mich. They named her after an embossed coin found in the bag; but almost always called her by her preferred nickname, Vey.
Mich and Vey were very close, and very competitive. He excelled at archery, and she excelled at hand-to-hand and swordsmanship. He eventually became an excellent well-to-do hunter and sold his game to the local butchers. Vey followed into her foster parents footsteps and became a seamstress. Unfortunately, just after her apprenticeship was finished, Mille, her foster mother, died. She was killed by bandits when hiking alone in the forest. Vey swore to avenge her by killing every bandit she came across, but then Marc informed her of her alleged parentage. She amended her quest – for find her parents, bandits or not, and to avenge her kind foster mother. Mich refused to assist her, on the grounds that he was a respected member of society and had a moral code against killing people. She continues on her own, wandering along the Spine and wherever rumor goes of bandits and murderers. Along her journey she discovered her aptitude for healing magic, and has been healing the sick in towns she goes through.
When roaming the Spine, Vey discovered a fox trapped with a broken forepaw under a bolder. Before she could move the bolder, the fox madly lashed out and cut her deeply from her ear to her shoulder. She normally would have put it out of its misery, but she decided to test the healing magic she used on people on the fox. It worked well. The fox seemed to develop some type of human understanding from the healing, and follows her wherever she goes. It warns her when she is in an unsafe place, whether it has bears or Urgals lurking in the shadows. It can cast very low level protection magic on its owner when severely threatened.

Role Play Sample\\ Vey turned to her foxy familiar and awaited a nod before entering the thicket where she heard from a seemingly trustworthy trapper that Spine passerby often rested before entering the coastal village of Kuasta. A loud chatter filled the small opening in front of her, and it seemed many were feasting. A hog was being smoked; the thick fumes filled the small clearing before disappearing into the night sky. She heard a laugh. Or was it a cackle? Her hand quickly glided to the hilt of her sword, and she almost pulled it out before her familiar pressed his head against her shin. “What?” she hissed lowly, taking care to not alert the nearby campers. All Vul did was stare at her with his wide green orbs. “Oh-by-the-gods what is it?” She asked desperately. Her experience told her it was never a good idea to ignore a warning from Vul. He continued to stare, as though he wished he could tell her with his mind. She rolled her eyes and crouched lower as a large drunken man passed. With a silent sigh, she backed away, still crouching, when she ran into a rather firm figure.
“Ouch!” She whispered, before rough hands gripped her and smothered her mouth. Vul unceasingly attacked the man; aiming for the parts not protected by dark leather. She could no longer see the smoke from the hog, night sky or not. She could now smell the thick brine of the sea. Fearing he was a slave trader, she sunk her teeth into his hand and ran as quickly as she could when he cried out.
“Wait!” He roared, clutching his hand and chasing after her. Vul viciously re-launched himself at the man, but the man was lightning quick and dodged him. He quickly caught up to her and yelled “Letta!”
Vey found herself immobilized. The man said the same to her familiar, and fear gripped her like never before. She doubted she could move if she hadn’t been incapacitated. He then stepped into the low light glinting off the surface of the water, and she gasped.
